Trial separation

I have to get away from my tv for a while. It's not like it is being violent or talking down to me, I just feel that it is leading me down the wrong path. Therefore, I shall not turn my television on all week. (7 days). The only caveat is if the tv watching is a social event. (Like Law-Rah allowing me, against her will, to pause Gray's Anatomy every 10 seconds to "discuss", or the girls coming over for a ANTM Festival.)
I think we'll get back together, eventually. It's not like we are divorcing. I would just like to see other people.

So you aren't going to watch TV for 7 days? I believe that you are just going to Tivo for seven days and catch up on the 8th day...am I correct?

Isn't that just like a drug addict saying, "I'm not going to snort cocaine during the week but, boy, I'm going through a lot of crack this weekend!"?

Buggie, you are in a safe place...we love you and care for you... No one is accusing you, we are here to support you and help you move past this problem...

One other thing, please don't let the TV convince you that it's your fault you're headed down the wrong path.

Yeah, I did that whole 'separation' thing once. We got rid of our extreme cable package, but it worked. For awhile. Now we just veg out for hours in front of the boring 'regular' channels. Travel Channel comes in a little fuzzy, it's like a special treat.

Good luck though, things can be so much better without tv! Like actually reading, or going out and doing something! :)

I'm going through the same thing right now but I think mine's more of a 'wait, how much of my life's been wasted away drooling in front of the tv?' realization that made me think enough was enough. Considering you have your classes that should be consuming a bunch of your time, though, I think you'll see a big difference in your productivity.

Ween it down maybe? Cold turkey will leave you licking your TV screen by day 3 and rattling off your favorite tv shows in the middle of the night (think, A Beautiful Mind level of insanity).

Good plan! It does suck up the evenings for me too. Cable just makes it so much more interesting. I never had such a hard time not watching tv before I had cable.

As the bumper sticker says, "Kill your television."
